The center has increased support to filmmakers and artists by more than 50 percent through its fiscal sponsorship program. The center has worked on more than 150 fiscal sponsorship projects – 40 just in 2017 alone – and the quality of film projects measures up to competitive standards at many international festivals beside Sundance. Strand Arts Centre was established in 2013 to safeguard the future of Northern Ireland’s oldest cinema. Any surplus income at the end of the financial year is re-invested into the charity. Plymouth Arts Cinema is Plymouth’s only independent cinema and has an established history in the city since 1947, screening the best in new independent cinema from all around the world, classic cinema, and festivals, events, and special guests from the film industry. The MA Artists’ Film & Moving Image is designed to provide you with an understanding and experience of artists’ moving image practice that has a breadth of outcomes and a variety of transferable skills in the knowledge that the professional field demands creative and practical flexibility. A principle concern that will span across the series will be a sustained consideration of the material display and discursive reception of artists’ film within a gallery context and the agency of a pluralistic moving image in relation to the fixed plane of cinema or networked screen. Running over three terms, the module provides an integrated combination of discursive and practical teaching and learning modes, facilitated by Goldsmiths staff and a range of visiting lecturers from the professional film and art communities.
The film came from a miniature script that actor Shawn Francis Saunders wrote for The Worst Thing I’ve Ever Done, which comprised six short plays by local writers and produced by the independent experimental Sackerson theatrical company. Through varied modes of delivery, they will also seek to balance these received canons through exploration of practices and positions that actively or implicitly challenge art-historical hegemonies that are socio-cultural, racial, gendered, sexual or geo-political in nature.
