The story follows Stéphane (Damien Bonnard), who, new to the police force in Montfermeil, is placed on patrol with Gwada (Djebril Zonga), a black officer who grew up in the neighborhood, and Chris (Alexis Manenti) who seems down on the “microbes” he is tasked with defending. Director Ladj Ly attempts to provocatively ask “who’s in the best?” with the movie’s explosive ending, however Les Misérables ultimately pales in comparison to movies which have explored the same themes much better, like Do the Right Thing and La Haine.
